GROTTAMMARE: landscape to admire
The pearl of the Adriatic in the center of the Riviera delle Palme
Just 18 km from the Girasole Eco Family Village towards the south of the Marche, defined as the Pearl of the Adriatic, stands Grottammare , the center of the Riviera delle Palme . Its palm trees and the green of its pine forests in fact surprise the visitor, as do the spectacle of the oleanders in the orange groves, and also the Art Nouveau villas and the beaches equipped with very fine sand with numerous bathing establishments offering their services.
A cycle path of around 20 km, which connects it to the south with San Benedetto del Tronto / Porto d'Ascoli and to the north with Cupra Marittima, at times close to the sea, makes it an ideal location for lovers of outdoor sports , surrounded by nature.
Grottammare is located at the foot of the Monte Castello hill where the medieval nucleus unfolds and is certainly worth a visit. The ancient village rises around Piazza Peretti , where we find a series of interesting places to discover, such as the Palazzo Priorale , the Altana dell'Orologio and the Teatro dell'Arancio . And also the elegant loggia and the splendid belvedere. For art lovers, other noteworthy places are: the seventeenth-century Church of Santa Lucia, the Sistine Museum which is located in the Church of San Giovanni Battista.
Along the walls, continuing the walk, it is possible to admire the restored Torrione della Battaglia , which houses many works by the native Pericle Fazzini , one of the greatest local artists of the twentieth century.
Impossible not to taste the very famous and typical of the place " Caffè del Marinaio ", a drink based on coffee and anise which seems to be inspired by the classic coffee with mocha, to which various anise-based distillates were added, which the sailors used to fight and face the cold of the long winter months.
